George A. Hambrecht, Consultant.
Mr. Hambrecht is president of Barlow Partners, Inc., an
investment firm that specializes in managing portfolios of hedge funds
for institutional investors.
After beginning his
career as a management consultant with Cresap, McCormick and Paget in
1970, Mr. Hambrecht became one of the original members of A.G. Becker’s
Institutional Funds Evaluation Service in 1973.
In this activity Mr. Hambrecht consulted with more than 30
institutional investors on questions of investment performance and
portfolio structure. In 1976,
Mr. Hambrecht founded Syrus Associates, Inc., a consulting firm that
specialized in solving the investment management and business problems
of money managers. From 1976 to
1988, Syrus Associates worked with more than 150 money management firms
worldwide and was a leading authority on the introduction of innovative
investment services as well as the growth of the asset management
business.
Mr. Hambrecht
graduated with a B.A. from Yale University in 1967.
He was a Fulbright Scholar in Brazil and received an M.S. in
Management from the Sloan School at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.
Mr. Hambrecht has
been a guest speaker at Institutional Investor’s Chief Investment
Officers Roundtable, the Financial Analysts Federation, Institute for
International Research, Investment Management Institute, and numerous
private functions. He has also
been published in the Journal of Portfolio Management and the Investment
Management Review on the subjects of strategic asset allocation and
business strategy.
